Something about the buildings in Chelsea

"I never go to New York City these days.
Something about the buildings in Chelsea just kill me."

Its odd how some lyrics will stick in ones head and you feel like you can relate to them even though they have no real barring on your life. I'm sitting here in a coffee shop in Chelsea and its no so much the buildings but the people. Although I guess thats New York City these days the young hipsters that seem to have no end of fashion forward expense accounts in the street with the 200 sq ft apartment they are spending way to much for.

At the start

Sometime ago while loading in a concert I had an interesting conversation with a fellow stage hand. He proposed to me that "Roadies" are nothing more then an evolved form of the gypsy, having found a legitimate way of making money out of our tricks and fulfilling the endless wanderlust that seems to plague us all. Our passion for music and travel wrapped with some of the finer things in life like a good meal and bottle of wine, philosophical conversation with a stranger in a coffee shop or bar. Finding ourselves lost in our own thoughts as we stare out upon a new city, and realizing just how small we are in the vastness of this earth yet how connected we really are to the person walking by outside our window. "Elegant Gypsies" sounded fitting for us, or a band name as he put it. I prefer the former to refer to myself as I always considered myself a Gypsy, a Nomad, one who feels like he has no home and yet everywhere is my home when I am there. So I've finally decided to start a blog about it, even though my current job allows me to be a bit more then a random roadie. I'm able to enjoy the city I'm in with a bit more class then from the confines of a tour bus. Still Nomadic from suitcase to suitcase, hotel bed to hotel bed. Attempting to share a bit of my life, the tastes, smells and feelings of seeing a new place or returning to one that I have not been to in sometime. Trying to connect with the town I'm in and feel complete and at home, ever yearning for that home but always longing for the road again when I settle in for to long. So this Elegant Gypsy settles in for a night in NYC in the Middle West Side, see you out there...
